Fort Matanzas and Castillo de San Marcos National Monuments are currently accepting applicants for the Teacher-Ranger-Teacher program, according to an announcement received by Historic City News this week.
The National Park Service teams up with teachers through this professional development opportunity for selected teachers to spend the summer learning and working in our nation’s largest classrooms- the national parks.
“Each teacher will receive a $3,000 stipend and course credit through a graduate seminar offered by the University of Colorado Denver,” a Teacher-Ranger-Teacher spokesman offered. “The TRT’s will work on a variety of projects with various duties, such as preparing curriculum materials or participating in summer camp programs.”
After their summer experience, participants will bring their knowledge of park resources back to their classrooms and serve as a lifelong bridge between the National Park Service, and their district, school, colleagues, and students.
“We are currently accepting applications for this summer at the Castillo de San Marcos and Fort Matanzas National Monuments,” Historic City News reporters were told. “We are not restricting it to a particular grade level or field of study. Any teacher can apply.”
