According to a report filed by Florida Highway Patrol traffic homicide investigators today, Gibby was walking south on the right paved shoulder on US-1 southbound.
A white Ford F-150 pickup truck, driven by 42-year-old Garry Allen Pelfrey of Macclenny, was also traveling south on US-1 in the outside lane. For a yet undermined reason, Pelfrey drifted right, onto the paved shoulder, and struck the pedestrian.
St Johns County Fire Rescue transported Gibby to Flagler Hospital, where he died from his injuries.
Toxicology reports have been ordered. Charges are pending the outcome of the investigation.
