At about 1:30 a.m. Sunday morning, Historic City News was informed that an armed gunman entered the lobby of the Holiday Inn on North Ponce de Leon Boulevard and robbed the desk clerk of an undisclosed amount of cash.
During the robbery, a nickel or stainless finish handgun was discharged inside the building; however, after we asked, Mark Samson reported that no one was hit and there was no injuries reported.
The robber’s image was captured on video surveillance in the lobby at the front desk of the hotel. He is described as a light skinned black male, mid to late teens wearing dark clothing and a red bandana over his face.
No explanation was offered for the delay in reporting this crime to the media, but if anyone has any information about this incident from Sunday morning, contact Detective Jennifer Trotzke at the St Augustine Police Department (904) 209-3486 or contact Crime Stoppers of Northeast Florida at 1-888-277-TIPS (8477) to remain anonymous and possibly be eligible for a cash reward.
