A passerby called police to report the discovery. St Johns County Fire Rescue responded to the scene with police.
The victim is the son of Michael and Wendy Kuhn and brother to Hannah Henderson, Tori Stout, and Heather Kemp. He was born and raised in St. Augustine and attended the First Coast Technical College. Dalton had a passion for skateboarding at Treaty Park, as well as Hamilton Upchurch Skate Park on the island. He played Pop Warner baseball for St Johns County Parks and Recreation, and football for the Gamble Rogers Middle School Stingrays.
Evidence collected at the scene indicates that Kuhn was riding a skateboard and leads traffic homicide investigators to believe that the teen was struck by a 2003-2007 Chevrolet Silverado or GMC Sierra and left to die on the side of the highway.
The vehicle will likely be missing a mirror and may have additional passenger-side damage. The actual make, model and color or the vehicle is unknown.
If you witnessed this incident or know the identity or whereabouts of the driver of the vehicle involved, you can remain anonymous and earn a reward by calling Crime Stoppers of Northeast Florida at 1-888-277-8477.
