Police remain on hunt for owner of downtown goat

According to a spokesperson for the St Augustine Police Department, officers are still waiting for the owner of a black and white colored goat to claim the animal. Records technician Jeanette Baker responded to a request from Historic City News this afternoon saying, as of right now, the owner has not come forward.

The incident report filed Monday was backed up with photographs of the sometimes friendly goat that was taken into protective custody Monday, May 16th at 8:50 p.m., by Officer Spencer Ayers and Officer Kevin Carroll. The goat was discovered in the street behind Local Heroes, a bar located at 11 Spanish Street downtown.

“Upon arrival I met with several people who stated they found the goat wondering in the street,” Officer Ayers wrote. “They stated that it was friendly, but it had tried to ram them.”

Police notified both St Johns County Animal Control and the Florida Agricultural Department, but neither agency could assist in recovering the goat.

The goat did not have a collar, so, Officer Carroll offered to keep the animal at his home. The goat was transported to Officer Carroll’s residence for safe keeping.
