Teen arrested after disguising his age with a fake drivers license

The St Augustine Police Department reported to Historic City News that just after midnight this morning, Patrolman Michael Linsky encountered a man who was openly drinking a beer in the parking lot of the Castillo de San Marcos National Monument.

When Officer Linsky approached on his bicycle, the man, Cameron Elijah Silbar, who lives at 137 King Street in St Augustine, began walking away. Linsky cut in front of Silbar in an effort to stop and properly identify him.

Silbar told Officer Linsky that he did not have any identification on him, but that he was 22-years-old. Silber said that his birth date was April 6, 1994.

When the police dispatcher attempted to verify the identifying information provided, it was discovered that Silbar’s actual year of birth is 1996 – making him only 19-year-old.

“Due to the defendant lying about his age, drinking in public and being under 21, he was placed in handcuffs and placed in the back of a patrol vehicle,” Linsky wrote in his report.

Silbar was again asked if he had an identification card in his possession. He replied, “Do you want the real one, or the fake one?”, then he pulled from his pocket both an active California driver’s license and a fake identification card purporting to have been issued by the State of New York. The NY State fake license reflected the first date of birth fraudulently given to Officer Linsky.

Silbar was arrested and transported to St Johns County Jail without incident where he was being held in lieu of $3,450.00 bond. He was charged with possession of counterfeit identification, a third-degree felony; obstructing police by a disguised person, a first-degree misdemeanor; possession of alcohol by a minor, a second-degree misdemeanor; and drinking in public. He was released after 4:00 p.m. this afternoon.
