Tomoka State Park Pirate Raft Race

On Saturday November 19th, Special Events and Volunteer Coordinator Karen Lundquist encourages interested Historic City News readers to join the “Krewe of the 13” during the Tomoka River Pirate Raft Race to benefit St Francis House shelter.

It will be a full day of fun, food, music, a kid’s zone, and cheering for your favorite pirate rafters, from 8:00 a.m. until 11:00 p.m. The race will begin 10:00 a.m. Admission to the event is free, there is a $4.00 per-vehicle-fee to enter the State Park.

Krewe of the 13 has issued a challenge to other Pirate Crews, Police Departments, Fire Departments, EMT’s, and any other civic groups who feel they want to come together to help their brothers and sisters who need them.

All rafts will put in approximately 1/2 mile from the Tomoka River Concession, 2099 N Beach St in Ormond Beach, and will travel by human power only down the river to the finish line. No motorized equipment allowed. All rafts must be homemade and all crews must be costumed in full pirate garb.

This event is hosted by and sponsored by Tomoka Outpost, inside Tomoka State Park. There will be music, beer, wine, and sodas available after the race, along with Tailgater Toby’s famous barbecue.

The Krewe of the 13 is a nonprofit group of pirate reenactors who share a common enjoyment representing themselves as historical pirates generally during the Golden Age of Pirates (1690–1720). They raise funds for charitable organizations that help in the local community.
