Historic City News readers who have been waiting for the next opportunity to discuss potential solutions to the traffic congestion experienced at the intersection of May Street, San Marco Avenue, San Carlos Avenue, and US-1, will have that opportunity Tuesday.
The Florida Department of Transportation has informed local reporters that they will host a public hearing on April 26th at the Holiday Inn & Suites, 1302 North Ponce de Leon Boulevard in St. Augustine.
The “open house” will be from 4:30 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. with state representatives available to answer questions. At 6:30 p.m., a brief presentation will be made followed by a public comment period.
There have been two public meetings held by the Department where alternatives for the intersection were presented for public input. Since that time, the Department has participated in several other public meetings hosted by the City of St. Augustine.
The preferred alternative selected has been subsequently refined.
Tuesday’s hearing is being held as part of the Design phase to provide the public an opportunity to review and provide comments on the refined alternative.
Since April 5, 2016, project documents have been available for review at the St. Johns County Public Library, 1960 Ponce De Leon Boulevard, St. Augustine, Florida. Public participation is sought without regard to race, color, religion, sex, age, national origin, disability or family status.
Persons wishing to submit written comments may do so at the hearing or by emailing them to FDOT Project Manager Eric Shimer at eric.shimer@dot.state.fl.us no later than May 6, 2016 to become part of the public hearing record. For more information, contact FDOT toll-free at (800) 749-2967.
