Besides the obvious benefit of hearing from a broader base of interests and opinions in the balloting process, since her appointment to the office by Florida Governor Rick Scott in September 2011, Oakes has worked hard to grow the registration of eligible voters across the county and offer new and innovative ways for those voters to cast their ballots. It is paying off.
“We have already reached a higher voter turnout in this election than I have seen since I first started working here,” Oakes, who was hired March 24, 1988, told Historic City News editor Michael Gold. “I am doing everything I can to guarantee that every vote counts.”
