St Augustine Police spokesman Cecilia Aiple reported to Historic City News that earlier tonight at about 7:56 p.m., the operator of a pedicab, a bicycle converted to a rickshaw, was struck and one passenger was injured by a hit-and-run vehicle in the area of the St. Augustine Amphitheatre.
St Johns County emergency medical personnel responded to the scene and one person was transported to Flagler Hospital for additional medical care. No word on the victim’s identity or the extent of their injuries.
Soon after the crash, officers were able to locate the driver of the hit-and-run vehicle in the area of SR-312 and US-1. Police arrested 51-year-old Jack Allen Crafton, III who lives at 2228 Deerwood Acres Drive in St Augustine.
Crafton has been charged with one-count of hit-and-run, leaving the scene of an accident with injuries, a third-degree felony, and driving under the influence. He remains in custody in lieu of $3500 bond.
