Historic City News local reporters were informed of meetings for the investiture of new commissioners in St Johns County and the City of St Augustine, as well as holiday closing schedules and meetings that have been rescheduled or canceled.
Offices for the City of St. Augustine will be closed on Thursday and Friday, November 22 and 23 in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday, but solid waste collections will remain on their regular schedule.
The November 26, 2018 City Commission meeting is canceled.
There will be two City Commission meetings in December. The first one on Monday, December 3rd at 7:30 p.m, is a special meeting for the installation of the 2018-2020 City Commission.
The oath of office will be administered to two returning commissioners; recently re-elected Mayor Nancy Shaver and Commissioner Nancy Sikes-Kline. Investiture for newly elected City Commissioner John Valdes will follow. Valdes is replacing one-term commissioner Todd Neville.
On Monday, December 10th at 5:00 p.m., the St Augustine City Commission will hold its only regular meeting of the month.
St Johns County held its investiture Tuesday morning of returning District 2 County Commissioner Jeb Smith; recently re-elected without opposition for an additional four-year term, and newly elected District 4 County Commissioner, Jeremiah Blocker, who is replacing Commissioner Jay Morris.
St. Johns County Thanksgiving Holiday Hours
All departments of the St. Johns County Board of County Commissioners, St. Johns County Administrative offices, and the Pet Center will be closed Thursday, November 22nd and Friday, November 23rd in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday. St. Johns County libraries and bookmobiles will close at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, November 21st.
All library branches, the Pet Center, and Animal Control will resume standard business hours on Saturday, November 24th. All other offices will resume standard business hours on Monday, November 26th.
Garbage, recycling, and yard debris will not be collected on Thursday, November 22nd, and the Tillman Ridge and Stratton Road solid waste scale houses will be closed. Beginning November 23rd, collections will be delayed one day with all routes being completed by Saturday, November 24th. Scale houses will resume standard business hours on Friday, November 23rd.
