The Lightner Museum informed local Historic City News reporters that they will host an art contest for the upcoming anniversary event “Promenade the Alcazar” on October 19, 2018.
The public is invited to submit original artworks inspired by the theme of the upcoming anniversary event. Winning artwork will be selected by museum staff and will most closely reflect the museum’s vision and needs for promoting the event.
“Henry Flagler intended for St. Augustine to be the French Riviera of the South, so we are looking for a piece that truly embodies the extravagance and decadence of the Art Nouveau era and the museum’s Get Gilded theme,” a museum spokesperson told local reporters. “All mediums are welcome. Be creative!”
This event will celebrate the 130th anniversary of the Alcazar Hotel and the 70th anniversary of the Lightner Museum. Activities will include a Wine Walk throughout the museum and grounds with delectable food pairings, and live entertainment featuring various musical performances.
The lucky winner’s artwork will be used as the face of this luxurious event and the winner will receive a $1,000 cash prize. The winning artist will receive name recognition, a press release on his or her winning piece, and a blog post featured on the Lightner Museum website.
The winning piece will be exhibited at the museum’s grand event and used for promotional materials. This is the perfect opportunity for students and locals to showcase their talents and get their names out there by being part of history at the Lightner Museum.
The Lightner Museum is a non-profit cultural institution sustained by the generous support of individuals, businesses and sponsors.
