Two arrests have been made and two others are in custody in the fatal shooting on Cowan Road that occurred at about 1:30 a.m. yesterday morning. The investigation of gunshots fired led to the discovery of one dead male body; found outside the residence by the St Johns County Sheriff’s Office.
Historic City News has learned that 21-year-old Xavier Aaron Williams who resides at 1285 Dunn’s Lake Drive in Jacksonville, and 18-year-old Zared Anthony Matthews who resides at 817 Templeton Lane in Ponte Vedra Beach, are in custody without bond at the St Johns County Detention Facility on Lewis Speedway.
Williams is charged with homicide, a first-degree felony, and robbery, a second-degree felony, while Matthews is also charged with homicide and robbery, plus an additional third-degree felony of sale of marijuana. The drug charge carries a $50,000 bond, however, Matthews cannot be released, even if he posts bail, unless the judge rules differently on the additional charges.
The sheriff has not been seen over the two days of this homicide investigation. All interviews and statements from his office have either come from civilian media representative Chuck Mulligan, or Matthew Cline, the civilian undersheriff.
The investigation is continuing and this will be updated as new information is released and verified.
