St. Johns County Health and Human Services has reported to Historic City News that their department has several spring events planned.
Parenting Group Classes
FREE parenting classes will be offered in two locations this spring. Some of the topics will include discipline techniques, use of praise and communication skills. A Wednesday evening class will meet weekly March 18 through May 20, 5:30 to 7:00 pm, in the Family Integrity Program Conference Room at the Health and Human Services complex, located at 1955 US 1 South in St. Augustine. A second class will be offered on Friday afternoons, April 10 through June 12, 1:00 – 2:30 pm, at the Walter E. Harris Community Center (old Hastings Elementary School) in Hastings. Foster Parent Training
The St. Johns County Family Integrity Program continues to recruit individuals, couples and families to become foster and adoptive parents. Anyone interested in learning more is invited to a question and answer orientation on Monday, March 30 at 6:30 pm. Then, a 10-week foster parent training course will be offered on Monday evenings from 6:30 to 9:30 pm, beginning April 6. The free training course is required for anyone to become a licensed foster or adoptive parent. Both the orientation and the training course will be held at the St. Johns County Health and Human Services complex, located at 1955 US 1 South in St. Augustine. 5K Family Walk for Child Abuse Prevention Month
The St. Johns County Community Resource Center in Hastings, in conjunction with the St. Johns County Recreation Department and Hastings Ministerial Alliance, is sponsoring a 5K Family Walk at 8:00 am on Saturday, April 18, at 201 W. Lattin Street in Hastings. Each participant will be adorned with a blue ribbon to honor April being Child Abuse Prevention Month. The 5K walk is an opportunity for individuals, families and members of the public and private sectors to fight child abuse and help children and families have a safe environment.
