Terri Newmans reported to Historic City News that The Florida Department of Environmental Protection’s Fort Mose Historic State Park will celebrate Black History Month at the first free black community in the United States.
Re-enactors in period clothing will tell the story of Fort Mose during their presentation of “Flight to Freedom”.
The living history demonstration, performed by Florida Living History Inc., will perform Colonial Spanish military drills and provide demonstrations of musket and cannon firing throughout the day. The event will also include African drumming, various exhibits and food vendors.
The entrance fee into the park is $2.00 per person.
The event will take place between 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., on Saturday, February 12th at Fort Mose Historic State Park, located at 15 Fort Mose Trail in St. Augustine.
