Community Lecture Series March 15th

Flagler College reported to Historic City News that their Community Lecture Series continues on Tuesday, March 15th, with a program by Dr. Wayne M. Riggs entitled “Godless Europe? An Evaluation of Religion in Europe during the 20th Century.”

Riggs, assistant professor in the Liberal Studies Department, is particularly interested in the role of religion in the evolution of social structures and national identities.

He received his Ph.D. and M.A. in Modern European History from Marquette University, and his B.A. in History from Grove City College. He specializes in modern Britain, and his dissertation focused on British religion during the First World War.

Riggs is also a researcher for the Children in Urban America Project, a program to compile an online database of resources relating to children’s history in Milwaukee. He is a member of the American Historical Association, the North American Conference on British Studies, and received the Schultz Foundation Research Fellowship in 2008.

The Flagler College Community Lecture Series was established in 2007 to present the St. Augustine community with select topics from Flagler faculty and local experts.

Tickets are $5 per person for a single lecture, or $15 for four lectures. The entire series costs $30. Active military personnel may attend at no charge.

Lectures begin at 10:00 a.m. in the Flagler Room at Flagler College, 74 King Street. Reservations are required. Space is limited. The lecture will last approximately one hour and will be followed by a coffee and pastry reception. Call (904) 819-6282 for reservations or more information.
