Historic City News was on the scene of a three-car collision that occurred on North Ponce de Leon Boulevard at about 7:00 p.m. today.
According to public information officer Jeremy Robshaw with St. Johns County Fire Rescue, “Two patients were taken to Flagler Hospital in stable condition.”
Traffic was backed-up northbound from town and police were directing oncoming traffic away from the accident scene.
The first vehicle, a silver colored SAAB four-door sedan, was in the left-hand-turn lane near the Best Western motel, headed northbound on US-1; when it was struck in the rear by the second vehicle, a blue colored Pontiac GrandAm four-door sedan.
The third vehicle, a dark blue Subaru 4-door SUV, collided with the second car — resulting in what appeared to be the most extensive damage.
The names of the drivers and amounts of damage to the three vehicles is unknown at this time — all had to be removed by wrecker, none were in operable condition.
St. Augustine Police are investigating the cause of the collision and attempting to determine is alcohol played a role. The driver of the third vehicle was administered a field sobriety test by police at the scene.
