Bomb scare at two local schools

Historic City News was on the scene at two St. Augustine schools soon after each received a bomb threat.

The first call was received by the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office at the beginning of the school session this morning and was directed at the St. Augustine High School on Varella Avenue. All students were immediately moved to the stadium.

After officers completed a search, the St. Augustine High School Campus was rendered safe and students were returned to their classes.

Two SAHS students have been detained regarding the incident at the high school although no arrests have been declared at this time.

A second bomb threat was received directed at Sebastian Middle School; just blocks away on Lewis Speedway.

Officers with the Sheriff’s Bomb Squad were dispatched, including their bomb handling robot.

We spoke to Sgt. Charles Mulligan on the scene who tells us that both schools are returning to normal operations. “If any parent wants to check on their child or pick them up, they can contact the school board.”, Mulligan said.

Mulligan reported “Sebastian Middle School has been rendered safe, with no devices located.”
