St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office media relations officer Kevin R. Kelshaw informed local crime desk reporters at Historic City News of a manhunt underway following an armed robbery at a SR-16 motel.
Last night at about 9:50 p.m., deputies responded to a robbery call at the Best Western Hotel located at 2445 SR-16 near I-95 in Saint Augustine.
According to a statement from the 28 year-old victim, who was working as a clerk at the motel, a man walked into the lobby with his head down and approached the front desk.
Although the clerk recalls that the man was white, stood about 5’8″ tall, and was thin build, no estimate of his age was reported.
The man brandished a handgun and demanded money from the cash drawer. The clerk complied and placed an undisclosed amount of cash into a bag; handing it to the robber.
Kelshaw told Historic City News that the robber ran out of the front door of the motel and in a southerly direction. No getaway car was reported.
Deputies undertook an unsuccessful search of the area for the armed man wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, black pants and a black bandana; which had been worn around his face during the robbery.
The victim was not injured.
The investigation is continuing. Anyone with any information concerning this crime is asked to contact the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office at (904) 824-8304.
