Chuck Mulligan reported to Historic City News that crash investigators from the St Johns County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Unit responded to an ATV crash on Carter Rd off of CR-214 Monday afternoon.
The Honda ATV (4-wheeler) was being driven by a 14 year-old who had two passengers on the ATV with him, a 11 year-old boy and his 12 year-old sister.
The 11 year-old boy was in front of the driver and the girl was behind the driver.
The driver reported that the 11 year-old hit the brake as they were going around a curve, and the ATV rolled over ejecting all three juveniles.
The ATV was driving on Carter Rd, and the driver said he was going to visit some family members.
He also said that he took his father’s ATV without asking first.
The driver’s father advised his son has been told repeatedly not to drive the ATV without permission, or to drive it in the roadway.
All three juveniles were transported to Flagler Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The crash is still under investigation, but the 14 year-old driver faces charges of careless driving, operating a motor vehicle without a license, and operating an ATV upon the roadway.
