Historic City News does not yet know all of the charges that two Clay County men will face following their arrest yesterday morning on charges of loitering and prowling, armed burglary to a conveyance, grand theft of a firearm and possession of a weapon or ammunition by a convicted felon.
At about 4:00 a.m., sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of a prowler in the 600 block of Lockwood Lane. After patrolling the area, Deputy Chris Alexander observed a man on foot and stopped to question him. The man, identified as 34 year-old Richard Scott Hill, who resides at 7041 Old Middleburg Road South, told the officer that he was in the area “looking for unlocked vehicles”, according to the incident report.
At about 9:30 a.m., Corporal Robbie Robinson located another man walking out of a wooded area in the vicinity of several recent, unsolved auto burglaries. The report says that the man, identified as 35 year-old Donald Michael Stanford Jr., who resides at 141 Old Orange Park Road, admitted to Robinson that he was involved in numerous car burglaries in the area.
Stanford was in possession of a handgun law enforcement officers say was stolen from one of the burglarized vehicles. Additional property was recovered from several other reported burglaries.
The two men are facing additional charges as the investigations into the break-ins continue.
