St. Francis Brick by Brick 5K Run/Walk

Historic City News has received advance word of the “St. Francis Brick by Brick 5K Run/Walk” to be held at the south entrance to St. Augustine Shores; corner of Shores Boulevard and US 1 South.

For registration information, contact Jenn Haight at 904-794-9234. Registration will close Thursday, January 14, 2010 and the race begins January 16, 2010 @ 8:00 a.m.

Jenn Haight and her Air Force family moved to St. Augustine in February.

“We’ve become aware of the homeless situation and feel a need to help”, said Haight.

St. Augustine has only one homeless shelter. The St. Francis House offers one meal a day. The shelter has 20 beds for men and 8 for women. We have 1000’s of homeless in our town and no shelter to offer families.

“We discovered from St. Francis House that around this time of the year, their cupboards get bare and they need food items and donations”, Haight said.

Besides needing food, there’s still no real shelter here for the homeless.

Haight says they are developing an organization to be called “A Posse Ad Esse” (from possibility to actuality).

Haight told us that this Run is to help St. Francis House build a new facility to help more people. “We’re looking for sponsors, support, promoting and volunteers!”
