Holiday’s ancestors may have posed for statues

There is no Internet service for our readers to keep up-to-date with Historic City News on Easter Island — a Polynesian island found in the south east Pacific Ocean.

The urge to explore has taken Historic City News subscriber Dan Holiday and Candy to one of the most remote parts of the world; where they have vacationed for the past several weeks.

Settlers, whose ancestors once originated in Polynesia, came to refer to Easter Island as the “navel of the world”. Easter Island is also home to highly sophisticated rock art carvings and paintings with unique motifs.

Although famous for the large monumental “Easter Island heads” they are, in fact, complete torsos kneeling on bent knees with hands over the stomach. As evidenced by this contributed photograph, Holiday, who we do not believe to be Polynesian, does depict an eerie resemblance to the island’s ancestors.
