USA Today Editor addresses Flagler Forum

The Flagler College Forum on Government and Public Policy will kick off its 2011-2012 season September 15th with USA Today managing editor Carol Stevens.

Stevens will discuss “America’s Evolving Media Appetite: Today, Tomorrow and the 2012 Election.” The event will be held at 7 p.m. in the Flagler College Auditorium.

At USA Today, Stevens oversees the production of the print newspaper and special editions. She first joined the paper in 1982 as a national reporter. She has also worked as a reporter for the Detroit News, assistant editorial page editor at the Baltimore Sun, Washington editor for Medical Economics magazine, contributor to Washingtonian magazine and reporter and local columnist for the Buffalo Courier-Express.

Stevens won the “Best of Gannett” award in 1993 for her coverage of black/white health differences, and she was a runner-up in the National Magazine Awards for her 1993 Washingtonian article, “Why Women Get Bad Health Care.” She is a member of Gridiron, a Washington journalism organization, and the American Society of Newspaper Editors.

For more than 30 years, the Forum has invited nationally recognized journalists and commentators to St. Augustine to discuss issues of importance in regional, state and federal government.
