Historic City News has learned that Heritage Tourism Director Dana Ste. Claire has developed some ideas for reorganization of the Heritage Tourism department and has been working with 450th Consultant Jeanne Zeidler to develop a strategic plan for the anniversary.
At a workshop scheduled for October 27th to be held at 9:00 a.m. in the Alcazar Room at City Hall, City commissioners will be updated on plans for the Heritage Tourism Department, the city’s 450th and other commemorations
Key commemorations include the 200th anniversary of the Spanish Constitution in 2012, five hundredth anniversary of Ponce de Leon’s discovery of Florida in 2013, fiftieth anniversary of the Civil Rights movement here in 2014, and 450th anniversary of St. Augustine’s founding in 2015.
Ste. Claire, who was appointed to replace Dr. Bill Adams as Heritage Tourism director on Adams’ retirement, is also the city’s point person for the 450th Commemoration.
The 450th Steering Committee, made up of community leaders, is exchanging ideas with local, state, federal, and international groups who will play a part in the commemorations and is anticipated to hold a general community meeting to unfold their planning strategy in the near future.
