Man accused of molesting boy in 1997

Sgt. Chuck Mulligan reported to Historic City News that a 33-year-old man was arrested Thursday and accused of molesting a 5-year-old boy … 11 years ago.

Unanswered questions remain as to why the accused was with the victim and why it took 11 years for him to be charged.

According to the police report provided to Historic City News this morning, Justin Eugene Sage is accused of pulling down the boy’s pants and performing oral sex on him on July 22, 1997.

The report says the victim told someone about it at the time. Who was told remains unknown – as does the reason why nothing was done.

The victim repeated details of the assault last week when he was interviewed by a FBI forensic interviewer. The arrest report said Sage admitted to the FBI on October 1st that he committed the act — as well as had possession of child pornography and performed “other sexually deviant acts.”

Allegations that he committed forcible sodomy and fellatio on the then 5-year-old boy have put Sage in a cell in the St. Johns County Jail — where he is being held without bond; charged with capital sexual battery.
