Historic City News has learned that kids in St. Johns County will have a new way to practice reading, thanks to a program being sponsored by Target and offered at the Southeast Branch Library.
Children in first through fifth grades are invited to READ to Rover the first and third Saturdays of November and December.
The program allows children to read to a canine buddy, offering a safe and welcoming place to improve their reading skills.
For instance, Rover will not embarrass a child if he or she messes up, nor will Rover interrupt them. Also, a dog will not heave an impatient sigh while a child is trying to read something really hard.
READ to Rover begins at 10:00 am on Saturday, November 7th.
Registration is required by contacting Alyssa at the Southeast Branch Library at (904) 827-6900. Appointments will be made for ten-minute intervals.
The Southeast Branch Library is located at 6670 US 1 South.
