Late last night, St. Johns County Sheriff’s spokesman Kevin Kelshaw told Historic City News that witnesses observed four St. Johns County teenagers prowling in the area of the 6500 block of Burnham Circle in Ponte Vedra Beach.
One resident went out to their driveway, after hearing car doors opening and closing near their home. They reported seeing two teens that fled the area to a nearby vehicle where they joined up with two more teenagers.
The Sheriff’s Office was notified and a K-9 Deputy and handler were dispatched. Corporal Greg Mullenix along with his K-9 tracked to the intersection of PGA Tour Boulevard and Cypress Bridge Drive, locating a vehicle containing two male subjects.
According to the report, Mullenix said the passenger appeared to be “wet and fatigued” and, when questioned, he admitted that he was with three other teens that were car hopping in the area.
The four involved were identified as Andrew Michael Matthews, 19, 941 N. Griffin Shores Dr., Samuel West Powell, 18, 4765 Palm Valley Rd., Colton Edward Feidler, 18, 133 Sawmill Lakes Blvd., and Austin Ganedy Lubis, 18, 279 Clearwater Dr.
Additional deputies rounded up the other suspects; who all admitted to the burglaries and entering up to 15 additional vehicles during the evening.
All were booked into the County Jail.
Property that was allegedly stolen from the burglarized vehicles was seized pending positive identification from the victims.
