Progressive rock legends Queensryche performed Thursday night at the Ponte Vedra Concert Hall, and Feature Reporter Mark Cubbedge attended for Historic City News in St. Augustine.
The Seattle-based band has sold over 20 million albums worldwide, and their performance in St. Johns County gave fans an opportunity to enjoy an intimate evening that featured original members Geoff Tate (vocals), Michael Wilton (guitar), Eddie Jackson (bass) and Scott Rockenfield (drums).
The Dedicated to Chaos Tour celebrates 30 years of music, and the crowd — ranging in age from those approaching senior citizen status to those likely not even born when the band began recording music in the early 1980s — was testament to the band’s success over the years.
The emergence of the live music scene the last several years at both the St. Augustine Amphitheater and the Ponte Vedra Concert Hall has provided regular opportunities for fans to enjoy shows from acts that historically would have played in Jacksonville or Orlando.
These niche venues allow fans to re-live some of their youth and once again see a band they saw decades ago. For others the opportunity is about having that first glimpse at musical greatness they’ve only listened to over the years.
The next opportunity to take in a legendary act locally will be Saturday at the St. Augustine Amphitheater. John Fogerty, vocalist, guitarist and songwriter for Creedence Clearwater Revival, will take the stage. CCR was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1993.
