The St. Johns County Education Foundation announced to Historic City News that they are collaborating with artists and businesses in the community to raise money for the arts in St. Johns County schools.
Through the launch of a new program called “Arts Alive”, a unique opportunity has been created for students and faculty to showcase their talents.
Both visual and performing artists are encouraged to participate.
A gathering was held last night at the Conch House that proved to be a great way to launch Arts Alive and inform the arts teachers in the county about the initiative.
Jim and Patty Springfield, Todd and Molly Jones, and Deron Baker all performed and emphasized the importance of arts education in our schools. Recording artist Deron Baker and Grammy nominated songwriter David Johnson are supporting this great event.
Kindergarten through twelfth grade students, along with any faculty or staff, can submit their own piece of visual art, or audition for the performing arts portion.
The event will be held on two separate nights during the same weekend in May.
May 17, 2012 will be the exhibit for the visual arts portion of Arts Alive, and May 19, 2012 will be a night to showcase the performing arts.
Members of the community, along with businesses in the area, are collaborating with the St. Johns County Education Foundation to put on the new and exciting event.
Businesses already on board to help support the arts in St. Johns County include The Conch House, Imagine Fine Art Printing, Cutter and Cutter Fine Art Galleries, Leonard’s and many more.
