Kim Collins, Community Awareness Coordinator at Betty Griffin House, reported to Historic City News that it’s time to enter the Betty Griffin House 2011 “Day Without Violence” Calendar Art and Poetry Project.
Entries must be received before the April 12, 2010 deadline.
Thirteen Art winners and Twelve Poets will receive cash prizes and will have their art or poem published in the “2011 A Day Without Violence” Calendar, which is distributed free to every classroom in the county, pending funding.
The project is open to all St. Johns County students ages 6 – 18, whether they attend public school, private school or are home schooled.
Entry forms have been delivered via e-mail to participating schools. If you did not receive one please e-mail: education@bettygriffinhouse.org
Winners will be honored at an award ceremony in October of the 2010 school year.
Winning art and poetry will be displayed at the ceremony.
The top one hundred pieces of art will also be selected, and exhibited at the Ponce de Leon Mall during October, which is Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
Winners will receive a color, framed copy of their art to keep. Students submitting poems should keep a copy for themselves.
All entries should be dropped off at one of the following collection sites:
Either Betty Griffin House Thrift Shoppe locations:
-616 SR 13 North, St. Johns, Florida in the Plantation Plaza 1/2 mile south of Racetrack Rd
-1961 A1A South, St. Augustine, FL.
-Any of the 6 County Libraries will collect entries. Look for the decorated entry box.
