Sgt. Chuck Mulligan reported to Historic City News that as the holiday season approaches, the St. Johns Community Traffic Safety Team has tips and advice for citizens on celebrating safely.
“Celebrate Safely” is a community–based comprehensive prevention program to address the issue of impaired driving.
The St. Johns Traffic Safety Team is a volunteer group sponsored by the Florida Department of Transportation.
Members and participants include: St. Johns Co. Sheriff’s Office, St. Augustine Police Department, St. Augustine Beach Police Department, Florida Highway Patrol, National Park Service, St. Johns School District, St. Johns Health Department, Shands Trauma One and many other local partners interested in reducing traffic fatalities in St. Johns County.
These partner agencies have joined together to raise awareness of the many holiday deaths and injuries caused by impaired drivers during the holiday season and to promote the use of a sober designated driver.
This community effort includes a Designated Driver program and highly visible law enforcement.
For more information on the campaign, please contact Sgt. Chuck Mulligan, St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office at 904-810-6690 or Andrea Atran, Florida Department of Transportation, at 904-614-8377
