Deputies responded Tuesday morning to reports of shots fired inside a home on Slowdrift Turn in Palm Coast and arrested a 44-year-old man on a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
Richard Paladino, 44, of 3 Slowdrfit Turn, had been drinking heavily when his mother called the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office around 7:39 a.m.to report he had fired a gun in the house, according to deputies.
His mother said she had gone out to walk her dog and when she came back, Paladino came into the living room, yelling, shouting and threatening to kill her dog. She went into the kitchen where she heard a gunshot. Deputies said the woman was standing by the kitchen cabinets and glass from the dishes inside landed on her. She fled to the bedroom where she locked the door and called the Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies said Paladino opened the front door to let the dog out not knowing that they had arrived. He was contacted by deputies who had surrounded the residence and he surrendered without incident.
His mother showed deputies that behind every picture in the house, she had multiple gunshot holes in the drywall from past incidents. Two firearms and several knives were taken into evidence.
Deputies reported Paladino registered a .339 on the blood alcohol breathalyzer.
He was transported to Florida Hospital Flagler to be medically cleared and will be transported to the Flagler County Inmate Facility.
