Historic City News reader Sacha Martin reported that a pet cat was discovered, shot twice with pellets, by a St. Augustine South resident Monday afternoon.
According to a St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office report, Jim Pollard was collecting his mail on Bob White Road and called to Rocky, the cat, but he did not come.
When Pollard went to pick grapefruit at about 2:00 p.m., he found his cat lying on the ground under a bush — unable to get up.
Martin says that Rocky is not eating and is paralyzed on one side. “He is under the care of Dr. Nicholas at Matanzas River Animal Hospital, but may have to be transferred to a neurology specialist in Jacksonville”, Martin reported.
A deputy determined the pellets were .177 caliber and came from Walmart.
The pellets did not match pellets in the gun of a neighborhood boy, according to Martin. No suspects have been reported as of today.
Rocky would likely survive but could be paralyzed permanently, according to the report.
