At their regular business meeting this morning, the St Johns County Commission gave approval to Sheriff David B. Shoar to purchase a quarter-million-dollar equipment and software package from AK Associates to replace our currently outdated 9-1-1 mapping system.
The St Johns County Sheriff’s Office applied for, and received, state grant funds to purchase MapFlex 911 Mapping System. AK Associates will need 120 days to install the new software and hardware.
In addition to submitting the $224,769.31 low bid, Kraus Associates Inc., a Florida corporation d/b/a “AK Associates”, listed a local address — 326 Porta Rosa Circle in St Augustine and claimed a minority owned business eligibility for being a “woman-owned” business.
However, the bid forms were signed and notarized in New Hampshire and lists a business telephone and business fax number on Independence Avenue in Derry, New Hampshire.
The only other bidder was Intrado, Inc whose bid was $251,195.
The new system will be used by emergency 9-1-1 call takers and dispatchers to locate callers geographically on the map display and quickly dispatch first responders to the incident.
The purpose of the E911 State Grant Program is to assist counties with the installation of Enhanced 911 (E911) systems and to provide “seamless” Enhanced 911 throughout the State of Florida.
