Highlights from March School Board meeting held March 13, 2012.
RECOGNITION OF OVERALL WINNERS OF 2012 RIVER REGION EAST SCIENCE FAIR
Joseph Paul of Ponte Vedra High School and Adam Snowden of Landrum Middle School were recognized for winning top honors in the science fair’s senior and junior divisions, respectively. The science fair was held last month at the First Coast Technical College and featured 130 science projects by 156 St. Johns County students.
RECOGNITION OF PONTE VEDRA HIGH SCHOOL (PVHS) GIRLS SOCCER TEAM AS THE 2012 CLASS 3A STATE CHAMPIONS
The PVHS Girls Soccer Team was recognized for capturing their second state championship trophy last month by defeating the Plantation American Heritage Patriots at the University of South Florida in Tampa in the state playoffs. The 22-member squad is coached by Dave Silverberg, assisted by Joey Duncan.
RECOGNITION OF 2011-2012 ST. JOHNS COUNTY’S TEACHER OF THE YEAR AND ROOKIE TEACHER OF THE YEAR
Emily Senko, a Spanish teacher at Pacetti Bay Middle School, was recognized as the Teacher of the Year and Heather Clubb, a fifth-grade teacher at Wards Creek Elementary, was recognized as the Rookie Teacher of the Year. These teachers were announced and recognized for their achievements both in the classroom and the community at last month’s Teacher of the Year celebration. Ms. Senko’s name and information has been forwarded for consideration in the FLDOE/Macy’s 2013 Teacher of the Year competition.
BOZARD FORD LINCOLN CHECK PRESENTATION
Bozard Ford Lincoln of St. Augustine donated $2011 to the St. Johns County School District to support programs that will help students meet graduation requirements. These funds were generated through a bonus program created by Ford Motor Company for a competition among sales managers at Bozard and a competing dealership.
APPROVAL OF THE 2011-2012 BUDGET AMENDMENT #2012 G-05
The School Board approved an amendment to the budget to reflect an updated estimate of current revenue and expenses. This month’s budget amendment of $38,231 takes into account adjustments of school day care revenue adjustments, donations and rental of facilities.
The March School Board meeting will be aired at 6 p.m. on Wednesdays, 7 p.m. on Fridays and noon on Saturdays on Comcast Channel 99 and can be viewed on the district website at http://www.stjohns.k12.fl.us/depts/media/sbm
