At about 4:30 yesterday afternoon, Historic City News freelance photographer Christopher Kimball reported to the local St. Augustine news desk that he was on the scene of a single car collision on U.S. 1 south of DuPont Center.
“The driver was alone in the vehicle,” Kimball reported. “It was the only car involved.”
The 1996 medium blue Toyota Camry was heading northbound on U.S. 1 when it rolled over and ended up on its roof. The car came to rest in the ditch on the east side of the highway in front of the horse ranch and stables south of S.R. 206.
Kimball told us that St. Johns County Fire Rescue 11 and Engine 11 as well as a deputy from the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office and trooper from the Florida Highway Patrol all responded to the call.
The driver’s car, registered to Zhang Chen of Summercove Circle in Saint Augustine, was severely damaged in the crash and the ditch was full of water, however, the driver was out of the vehicle by the time firefighters arrived.
The driver was transported to Flagler Hospital by emergency personnel. No word on the drivers condition at this time.
