Grand Theft charges filed in theft from vehicle

St. Augustine City Police have filed charges with the State Attorney’s Office against 61 year-old Tommy Griffin in connection with the theft of over $2,000 in property from a home on January 29th.

Community Affairs Officer Barbara Clifford told local news reporters that the victim had gone to her 81 year-old father’s home on Nesmith Avenue to install a flood light.

The victim and her father were joined inside the home by the suspect, Tommy Griffin.

According to statements made in the report of Officer William Moltimore, Griffin left the house, went outside, then came back in and said he had to go.

Sometime later, the victim returned to her car and noticed her purse was missing.

The victim told police that she attempted to contact Griffin several times by telephone after the property was discovered missing. The victim said that each time she talked to Griffin; he would use vulgarity and threaten her.

Griffin admitted to spending the cash inside the purse on crack cocaine and stated the jewelry inside the purse was only worth $100.

The complaint advises her purse was a coach purse worth $600. Inside were $200 cash, miscellaneous jewelry worth $1000, 2 cameras, and an ipod. Griffin is being charged with Grand Theft.
