Paul Williamson, Public Affairs Director for the City of St Augustine, informed local Historic City News reporters that the Independence Day fireworks display over Matanzas Bay is the largest single-event audience in the City each year.
While an exact count of all who see “Fireworks over the Matanzas” is not possible, 100,000+ is not unrealistic considering that the show is seen from a 360° vantage point, including the Bridge of Lions, the Bayfront and the Castillo grounds; the grounds of the Mission Nombre de Dios; the Vilano Boat Ramp park; and Porpoise Point and Davis Shores.
Important times to remember:
6:00pm – 8:00pm: The All Star Orchestra in a two-hour free concert of patriotic favorites with big band flair in the Plaza de la Constitución’s Gazebo.
8:30pm: Road closures and detours begin, including the closing of the Bridge of Lions. Roads will reopen as soon after 10:30pm as possible.
9:30pm: Fireworks over the Matanzas
