Port assists with Fire-Rescue jet ski purchase

Marine Rescue Lieutenant Jeremy Robshaw informed local Historic City News reporters that St Johns County Fire Rescue recently put into service two new Kawasaki STX-15 jet skis, two Extractor rescue sleds and two aluminum trailers thanks to a continued local partnership with the St Augustine Port, Waterway and Beach District.

During the recent budget needs assessment, it was determined that the Department would require this apparatus to remain efficient and maintain operational capability in the marine rescue environment. Unfortunately, available limited funds in the Marine Rescue budget did not support this purchase.

In a move that proved successful, Robshaw told reporters that the Department approached the St Augustine Port,Waterway and Beach District with a detailed description of operational needs and deliverable services with the assistance of the marine rescue equipment.

Deputy Operations Chief Joel Sneed presented the marine rescue program to Port, Waterway and Beach District commissioners at their May 15, meeting. The members voted unanimously to approve a donation of $23,700 for the purchase of this potentially lifesaving equipment.

“St Johns County Fire Rescue would like to express our gratitude to the St Augustine Port, Waterway and Beach District commissioners for continuing the partnership program with St Johns County Fire Rescue — allowing both organizations to better serve the citizens and visitors of St Johns County,” Robshaw told reporters.
