After spending the night in jail and in his second brush with the law in about a month, former St. Augustine City Police officer John T. Olsen was released from custody this morning after posting an appearance bond of $200.00.
Last month, 48 year-old Olsen was reported in a local newspaper when he was arrested by St. Augustine City Police officers and charged with careless driving, driving in possession of an open container and driving under the influence of an alcoholic beverage.
Olsen’s license was suspended for six months after his conviction on the charges of driving under the influence.
Shortly after 5:30 last night, deputies with the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office took Olsen into custody when he was discovered driving a white 1987 Ford F-150 pickup truck in his neighborhood at Venetian and Old Dixie Highway.
The first deputy on the scene witnessed Olsen driving the truck towards his home from US-1 and was concerned that Olsen might be impaired. Olsen admitted to a second deputy who arrived at Olsen’s residence that he did not have a driver’s license.
The deputies took Olsen into custody, without incident, and charged him with operating a motor vehicle while his driver’s license was suspended, cancelled or revoked.
