District 23 Medical Examiner, Dr. Predag Bulic, has taken custody of the body of a 62-year-old white man, recovered from the San Sebastian River earlier this afternoon.
A passerby observed the victim floating, face down, in the river; west of Ponce de Leon Boulevard and called 9-1-1. St Augustine Police responded to the call.
Lieutenant Jeremy Robshaw, public information officer for the St Johns County Fire Rescue, told reporters that two rescue divers went into the water to recover the body.
Bulic said that he would have to complete a post-mortem investigation tomorrow before he can be sure what caused the man’s death.
Police say that although foul play is not suspected at this time, the investigation is continuing. The identity of the victim is being withheld pending notification of the family.
