Thursday evening, shortly after 5:00 p.m., Historic City News learned that neighbors in the 400 block of Chattan Way called 9-1-1 to report hearing gunshots fired in their otherwise peaceful St Johns neighborhood.
Sheriff’s Media Relations Officer, Kevin Kelshaw, informed local reporters that deputies arrested 32-year old Jeremy A Manning on the scene; when they arrived to discover the man attempting to forcibly enter his residence.
For their own safety, Manning’s family had retreated into the house and locked themselves inside.
Kelshaw told Historic City News that, when the deputies ordered Manning to drop his handgun, he complied and was taken into custody without further incident.
Manning allegedly became intoxicated during the day, according to the incident report, and then he fired several rounds of ammunition into a family member’s unoccupied vehicle. The gunshots causing about $1,000 in damage, the report said.
Manning was arrested on three counts of aggravated assault with a weapon, using a firearm while under the influence of alcohol and felony criminal mischief and taken to the St Johns County Detention Facility; where he remains in lieu of bonds totaling $78,000.
