Florida Highway Patrol Trooper Ronald L Roberts informed Historic City News reporters that a hit-and-run crash, at Nocatee in St Johns County at about 6:00 p.m. last night, sent an Atlantic Beach man to the hospital with serious injuries.
According to Roberts’ report, 40-year-old Bruce J Scott who resides in Atlantic Beach, was riding his 2006 Harley-Davidson Roadmaster motorcycle in the right lane; heading east on Preservation Trail at Cross Water Parkway in Nocatee.
When Scott attempted to change lanes, he struck a vehicle, passing on his left, believed to be a Honda CRV. The car drove off without stopping to render aid as required by state law.
Scott suffered severe injuries in the crash. He was stabilized by St Johns County emergency medical personnel and transported to Shands Jacksonville Medical Center. According to paramedics, Scott was wearing his helmet at the time of the collision.
$ 2000 in damage was estimated to the motorcycle — damages to the passenger side of the fleeing vehicle are unknown. Trooper Roberts said that alcohol was not a factor in the crash as far as Scott was concerned, however, he could not rule out impairment of the other driver.
Charges are pending further investigation and the identification of the Honda CRV and its driver.
