Kevin Kelshaw told St. Johns County local news reporters that deputies responded to a report of a disturbance in a parking lot at 200 block of South Woodlawn Street shortly before 3:00 a.m. this morning.
Deputies located a 47 year-old First Coast Limousine driver on the ground with multiple head wounds. St. Johns County Rescue personnel responded to the scene and transported the victim to the Flagler Hospital emergency department for additional treatment.
The victim told deputies that he was driving for the limousine company and picked up a fare including several women at St. Augustine Beach. He says that he dropped some off on Francis Street and continued to 200 South Woodlawn Street to drop off the remaining two women.
As the victim opened the limo door for his passengers, he reported that he was jumped and struck in the head by several men.
The attackers took the victim’s wallet, cell phone and limousine — the carjackers escaped capture; fleeing in an unknown direction.
The still running limousine was located a short time later at West 6th Street and Duval Street by other deputies who were looking for it. Several subjects were seen fleeing from the area. The limo was impounded for evidence.
Sheriff’s Robbery-Homicide detectives are continuing the investigation.
