Saturday morning, when the parents of a young girl left their daughter in the care of 67-year-old Joseph Larry Baggett, they never expected what they would learn when they returned to pick her up.
According to Sheriff’s Media Relations Officer Kevin Kelshaw, the child, a girl under the age of 10, told her parents that while she was staying with Baggett in his home at 3140 Usina Road, he touched her inappropriately.
The parents immediately contacted Special Victims Detectives to report what had transpired. They child victim was questioned by the First Coast Child Protection Team.
Yesterday afternoon, law enforcement officers located the suspect at his residence and brought him in for questioning. After the interview, Baggett was arrested and charged with capital sexual battery.
Baggett remains in custody at the St Johns County Detention Facility, without bond, following his first appearance hearing before a judge earlier today.
