FEC Amtrak passenger rail workshop Tuesday night

Posted on 05/04/2010 By Historic City News

Next Tuesday night, Historic City News reporters will be on hand and our readers are invited to participate in a joint public information workshop regarding the FEC Amtrak Passenger Rail project.

The plans propose restoration of passenger service, to be provided by Amtrak, over the Florida East Coast rail corridor from Jacksonville to West Palm Beach, with service continuing south to Miami on the CSX rail corridor.

The purpose of the project is to enhance rail mobility and connectivity to Florida’s east coast cities.

Eight new stations are proposed, including St. Augustine, Daytona Beach, Titusville, Cocoa, Melbourne, Vero Beach, Fort Pierce, and Stuart, as well as an FEC-CSX rail interconnection in West Palm Beach. The proposed service would initially consist of two northbound and two southbound trains per day.

St. Augustine Public Information Workshop Details:
Date: Tuesday, May 11, 2010
Time: 6:00 p.m.
Location: St. Augustine City Hall, Alcazar Room

Aerial maps will be on display and members of the study team will be available during the workshop to informally discuss the project and to answer questions.

Project information will be available for review beginning at 6:00 PM, and a formal presentation will be conducted at 6:30 P.M., followed by an informal question and answer session.

Attendance at this public information workshop is encouraged and comments will be noted and appreciated.

This workshop is being held by The Florida Department of Transportation consulting with the Federal Railroad Administration in compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act. Public participation is solicited without regard to race, color, national origin, age, sex, religion, disability or family status. Persons who require special accommodations under the Americans with Disabilities Act or persons who require translation services (free of charge) should contact Mr. Gregor Senger, FDOT Project Manager, at 954.777.4141 or by email at gregor.senger@dot.state.fl.us at least seven (7) days prior to the public workshop.
