Barbara Jenness, chairwoman of Scenic & Historic A1A Corridor Management Council, asked Historic City News to invite our readers to attend their meeting tomorrow, Monday, May 10th.
Jenness, who is also President of Friends of A1A Scenic and Historic Coastal Byway, says that in this meeting, the council will hear concerns over repeated wash-outs on A1A in the area of the former Beachcomber RV Park.
“We need to preserve our evacuation route,” Jenness told Historic City News.
The A1A Corridor Management Council meeting will be held at the South Ponte Vedra Civic Association building located at 2724 South Ponte Vedra Boulevard from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. on Monday, May 10, 2010.
Guy Weeks will be participating, by speaker phone, from a conference room in Tallahassee as will others, as needed. FDEP has confirmed attendance — pending any emergency reassignment as a result of the oil spill issues.
Additionally the FDOT will be there, Ports & Waterway Authority, and a representative from the Army Corp of Engineers.
The Army Corps of Engineers will be dredging the ICW by Porpoise Point this fall and current plans are to place the fill near the St. Augustine Pier. “We need to look at how to modify the fall 2010 Plan to allow the sand from the dredging of the Intrcoastal Waterway to go north of the inlet to the area that keeps washing out,” Jenness said.
The DEP has designated the location as a “critically eroded area”.
