The University of Florida and partnering organizations have made it possible for Historic City News readers to attend the first United States tour of the National Symphony Orchestra of Cuba since the beginning of Communist rule under Fidel Castro.
For more than 50 years, the National Symphony Orchestra of Cuba has been instrumental in introducing Cuban and Latin American music to the international classical music community.
The orchestra’s performance is presented as a gift to the City of St Augustine and St Johns County; as a free, non-ticketed concert at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 4 at the St Augustine Amphitheatre, located at 1340 A1A South.
This classical presentation will signify the launch of a cultural collaboration that begins with the 500th anniversary of the discovery and naming of La Florida by Spanish explorer, Juan Ponce de León in 1513.
The presentation, which will include the Cuban Overture as well as compositions by Beethoven, Gershwin, and Lecuona is open to the public on a first-come, first-served basis.
Gates open at 3 p.m.
