Community Affairs Coordinator Sergeant Charles E Mulligan informed Historic City News that a suspected natural gas leak is under investigation — police and fire crews are on the scene and traffic is being diverted from the area of US-1 South near I-95 at the Flagler County Line.
Emergency personnel at the scene are reporting that the source of the leak appears to be a former gas station located along the highway.
The Mobil gasoline station, south of I-95, convenience store, and adjoining Dairy Queen, have all been notified of the risk as a precaution; as has the neighboring Pellicer Creek Campground.
Traffic is being diverted off of US-1 South in Flagler County and in the area surrounding the gas leak.
St Johns County Fire Rescue is assessing the situation with regard to the potential need for evacuation — that decision has not yet been reached.
